DIY-styled mustard coming up

The satisfaction of making something from home always leaves me with a certain pride. Making yellow mustard is as simple as 1,2,3... A bit of mustard powder, vinegar, and some basic pantry ingredients. Homemade mustard can become your favourite kind of mustard by the time you make it. It is one of those DIY activities that quickly create the need to be repeated. The required utensil is a Nonreactive saucepan.

Reason for the nonreactive:

As the name indicates this specific pan is one that does not react with the food being cooked. Acidic foods like vinegar or lemon are typically problematic because of the chemical reaction with certain metals.

Ingredients:

home made mustard

Steps:

1- In the nonreactive saucepan, add some water, dry mustard, salt, turmeric and paprika. Whisk it all until smooth. The recommended heat temperature for the mixture is medium-low to low heat. It is important to keep stirring often and wait until it stops bubbles. Estimated time between 30 to 45 minutes.

2- Whisk the mustard mixture with some vinegar and let it cook until the mix is as thick as the desired consistency. Estimated time between 7 to 15 minutes.

3- Cooling time for your DIY mustard, let it rest at room temperature before transferring it into an airtight container. Tightly cover and refrigerate for as long as 3 months. Your mustard will have a pungent smell in the first weeks but it will settle down with time.
